Many small and mid-size companies do not have the resources or knowledge to implement child safety procedures and tools, making their platforms vulnerable to abusive content and behavior.

In 2013, we published the first version of The Thorn Sound Practices Guide, which educates companies about proven practices, tools and resources that exist to identify, remove, report and prevent child sexual abuse material and abusive behavior on their platforms. This guide was created with input from major companies participating in Thorn’s Technology Task Force, including Facebook, Google, Twitter, WePay, Pinterest, Microsoft and others. Some of the tools discussed in the guide include the Industry Hash Sharing program, PhotoDNA and more.

Sound practices are organized by service, so that each company can identify tailored recommendations for the types of services they provide. The guide serves as a comprehensive resource for all companies who want to keep their platforms safe.
